1st Meagan DUHAMEL/Eric RADFORD @ 2013 4CC
Duhamel:
Obviously we are not happy at all with the way we performed today. It was the worst free program we skated all season. But we came here with our goal to win the gold medal and we are happy to achieve this. We are also very thankful that we skated our very best short program.
Radford:
…It wasn’t "that’s bad!" (laughs) It was a difficult and I guess a struggle of a long program, especially compared to the short program. Sometimes on the day that’s all we got, we gave everything we had today. We know we need to do more in order to have a better score, and to… just reach our own potential.
- What emotions do you have, after winning a gold medal × kind of disappointing FS?
Radford:
I was telling Meagan, it was on my "bucket list" to stand on the podium and hear the national anthem. I've been waiting for that moment since my first international way back when I was 19, so I think I will remember that forever.
Duhamel:
It's a mix of emotions because… you know, we finished our skate and we felt very disappointed but then to go on the podium and to achieve this goal, we felt very proud. So we’re feeling a very big mix of emotions here, but, in the end, we are proud of what we did this week. We are proud to be on the top of the podium at such a prestigious competition and we will take a lot from that.
2nd Kirsten MOORE-TOWERS/Dylan MOSCOVITCHBR
@ 2013 4CC
Moscovitch:
Hi! = "con-knee-chi-wa!" (smiles) I think we are "both" happy with our competition overall (smiles), both our short and our long were strong skates. Obviously there are a few things we could have done a little better, some unfortunate miss perhaps, but overall we are happy with where we are at. It's another stepping stone from Nationals towards the World Championships. We are right on track to keep building to deliver our best performance next month at the World Championships.
Moore-Towers:
(on missing gold) Uh, I think I personally try not to regret anything. Sure, I would love to go back in time and try that loop(fall) again (smiles), and stand up in it this time and do it how I do it every day, but we're thrilled with how we skated in general, and we're thrilled to have won the long. We're constantly making little baby steps to get to where we wanna be and beyond.
Moscovitch:
(on missing gold) I think also, we're happy with the progression of our season. It started out a little bit rocky for us, but I think every time that we improved and we kept pushing forward and I think this is still an improvement from Nationals and we still have a lot left in us for the World Championships, so I think overall… you know, we don't have anything to be upset with. (smiles) We're happy with where we're at.
3rd Marissa CASTELLI/Simon SHNAPIR @ 2013 4CC
Shnapir:
I think we… "I know we" actually - I know we definitely feel a lot better about this performance. (smiles) We had a little mistake on one of the jumping passes but overall we felt like it was a strong performance and we are happy with our results getting a seasons best. But we know we have room to grow and can increase that score even more, so that is what we are looking towards doing in the coming month till Worlds.
(Also he noted "We have been practicing our quad throw Salchow all season long," @ mixed zone after FS.)
Radford:
(on learning experience "Take 1") I think, firstly, at this competition we… obviously we learned nothing! (laughs)
Duhamel:
You have time! Think about it! (laughs)
Radford:
(on learning experience "Take 2") (smiles) I mean, I think we were very comfortable for SP and we weren’t as comfortable for the long, so going into Worlds, we want to recreate the feeling of SP here in both programs at Worlds. In terms of having results at Worlds, I think we have a little bit of a mini team having a goal of getting 3 spots, for Canada, to Sochi.
Duhamel:
(on Worlds) When Eric and I go home, we have to practice a lot skating first after the warm up. This was the very first time in one year that we had to skate first (after the warm up) and I think we weren't comfortable with this. So we will go home and prepared more so if at the Worlds, we skate first after the warm up we are going to be prepared more mentally and from experience.
DUHAMEL/RADFORD SP @ 2013 4CC
Moore-Towers:
(on learning experience) I think we learned a lot of things this week, one of them is that: I shouldn't fall down. (smiles) But for the most part we related very well to each other. Personally felt more comfortable than Nationals, more ready to perform and excited to perform so that is definitely something I am hoping to build upon towards the World Championships.
We haven't skated last in quite some time, so we had a lot of time backstage to sit and wait which was definitely a different experience for us. Although I am pleased how we handled it and our outcome of our skate.
Moscovitch:
(on Worlds) We definitely would like to win to earn 3 spots for Canada for the Olympics, it is a very big goal for both of us. We would like to have two best skates and take a shot of the podium. There are a lot of good teams in the world right now but there is also a lot of room there, so I think that's our biggest goal right now.
MOORE-TOWERS/MOSCOVITCH SP @ 2013 4CC
Castelli:
(on learning experience) I think Simon and I learned this week about quick turn arounds. We just got back from Nationals and we had to start training again, so it just proves to ourselves that no matter what we have been trained, or no matter if we are sick or tired that we can do everything.
Shnapir:
(on Worlds) I think we definitely are looking to continue to improve on our seasons best scores, and work on our consistency in our performances. We have been improving form every competition to next, so I think we want to continue that at Worlds, just take it one step at a time and not look too far into the future, that's not a goal right now - next few weeks until the Worlds.
CASTELLI/SHNAPIR FS @ 2013 4CC
off ice interests
Radford:
Meagan and I play on a dodgeball team - I don't know if that's translatable. (smiles)
Duhamel:
They'd better have won this week while we were here. (smiles)
Radford:
(smiles) Our team was fine while we were here. Also, another one of my major passions is music. I play the piano and I like to compose music.
Duhamel:
I also play on a baseball team in the summer - I know that's popular in Japan. (smiles)
DUHAMEL/RADFORD SP @ 2013 4CC
Moscovitch:
I coach part-time, skating. I also teach martial arts. I recently took up guitar, so I've been playing that, trying to catch up to Eric's musical talent - I have a long way to go. (smiles) Um… that's about it. (smiles)
Moore-Towers:
Um, although I suppose my life is consumed with skating and skating activities, um, I think my favorite thing to do is play with my dog. (smiles) She makes me very happy and she loves me all the time. (smiles)
Moscovitch:
I forgot one thing. (smiles) Up until recently, for the last 11 years, I skated on an all male synchronized comedic team, we did shows and donated our money to breast cancer research. It's very funny. (laughs)
(You can enjoy The IceMen comedic act on ***Tube. Unlike Trockadero, The IceMen's masculine moves are gelling funny punchlines. Also you'll see Bryce Davison enjoying its great sketch comedy on the ice!)
MOORE-TOWERS/MOSCOVITCH FS @ 2013 4CC
Shnapir:
Marissa and I, both… every year, participate in a show or two for charity, something local in our hometown or in our training city. Also, for me personally, like Kirsten said, I'm so consumed by skating but, you know, when I get a chance, I like to go out and ride my bike. I cycle a lot, uh, especially when the weather's really nice, do to really go for long bike rides helps get my mind off skating sometimes and do something else or so.
Castelli:
Hi, everyone. In my spare time, I like to do Yoga and Pilates, and I also help choreograph for our club show, Ice Chip - "Show of Champions". Anyone want to come? (smiles) It's gonna be great this year. (laughs)
CASTELLI/SHNAPIR SP @ 2013 4CC
the reason why there are not so many Pairs
Radford:
I think Pair skating involves a very unique set of abilities.
Single skating, you know, if you're a strong jumper, have strong spins and strong edges - then you're gonna be successful, but in Pair skating: first of all, you have a larger guy and a smaller girl, who both can jump; then the man has to be able to do twists and lifts; be able to spin at the same time as somebody else; then you have to have - it's with two people so it's a "relationship". If you get different personalities - like there's so many obstacles, different variations on people and everything for us, "a team" to come together, that combined with people, wanting to do pairs.
You know, we find in Canada a lot of people, they get a triple-triple - a Salchow and a Toeloop, they think that they're gonna be a Canadian champion in Singles and they just don't seem to think about maybe trying Pairs but it could open a lot of doors to a higher level skating.
In terms of it being popular, um… I think that it makes itself popular because it's very exciting with all of the lifts and the twists and that connection between two people rather than just one person.
DUHAMEL/RADFORD @ 2013 4CC
Moore-Towers:
Uh, I think that another thing is built on. A lot of people don't understand, you can have a great Pair team, from the outside looks like they have everything to be successful but, it's kind of in a weird way like an arranged marriage. (smiles)
If you don't get along and you don't have a good working relationship, I think it puts a damper on your success. We are lucky that… (smiles) we like each other, and we have similar work ethics, so we get along. I think that's a factor that a lot of people from the outside looking in don't really see.
And Pair skaters are, I think, a special breed of people. (laughs) You don't often find a girl who wants to be thrown in the air for a living. (Everyone lol) Yeah (smiles), and, personally, I started Pairs late - I was 16 years old and when I was younger, I didn’t want to do it because I thought, um… you know, maybe it might be scary and I didn't understand that, you know, you could find a boy that is trustworthy and stable and able to lift you, so maybe the awareness isn't there with the younger skaters but I think we're definitely trying to build it in our country.
MOORE-TOWERS/MOSCOVITCH @ 2013 4CC
Castelli:
I think Pairs is a lack of a little bit of longevity. If you look at such as ice dancers Tessa and Scott (VIRTUE/MOIR), Meryl and Charlie (DAVIS/WHITE), I think they've been together since childhood and we just haven't formed bonds like they have.
Simon and I have been together for a long time and we fight like brother and sister, sometimes we like each other, sometimes we don't (smiles), but at the end of the day, we have to trust each other and stay with each other and that's something - I think that's hard to do is to trust someone else on the ice when it's something, it's really hard to do Pairs, to trust someone else and be thrown and hope that he catches you (smiles), which he does all the time. (smiles)
Shnapir:
I will! (smiles)
Castelli:
(smiles) I just think it's a very hard sport to do and just trusting and working with someone else is always difficult.

1st Meagan DUHAMEL/Eric RADFORD @ 2013 4CC
2nd Kirsten MOORE-TOWERS/Dylan MOSCOVITCH
@ 2013 4CC
3rd Marissa CASTELLI/Simon SHNAPIR @ 2013 4CC
DUHAMEL/RADFORD SP @ 2013 4CC
MOORE-TOWERS/MOSCOVITCH SP @ 2013 4CC
CASTELLI/SHNAPIR FS @ 2013 4CC
DUHAMEL/RADFORD SP @ 2013 4CC
MOORE-TOWERS/MOSCOVITCH FS @ 2013 4CC
Ice Chip の「Show of Champion」っていうショーです。

DUHAMEL/RADFORD @ 2013 4CC
MOORE-TOWERS/MOSCOVITCH @ 2013 4CC
