"What's important for Japanese Ice Dance?"
- in order to be popular and be competitive
DAVIS:
Charlie and I did the seminar in Japan this past summer and we had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with the Japanese here with the Japanese team, just kind of focusing on their stroking and skating skills, which are excellent!
So I think that, in terms of putting together - um, you know, a "partnership", I think Charlie and I just have to focus on kind of respect for one another. I think that's one of our greatest assets, respect for us all, respect for one another.
And I think in a lot of ways just kind of "serendipity", just getting lucky with having someone that, uh… you know, well-balanced is really well. Charlie and I have a lot of similarities, but we're very different in a lot of ways and we, I think it serves our partnership very well.
WHITE:
I think it's key, we've always really stayed in the moment and focused on one day at a time, one year at a time - never getting too far ahead of ourselves. I think just sort of that mindset is huge when we had a partnership we're working towards the same goals, then just a similar work ethic. We want to push through for each other to achieve our goals, independently and as a team.
And, you know, like Meryl said, we're lucky enough to have found someone like that.

VIRTUE:
(on "being popular") Well, we always talk about the Ice Dance fans here in Japan, but I think tonight was truly special, particularly when we started out the program again, and you could hear everyone clapping along and giving us their support and their energy. We're so grateful for that. I think that is exactly how fantastic Japanese (Ice Dance) fans are.
MOIR:
I think, for Ice Dance you should invite SHIBUTANIs here and then just kidnap them! (everyone laughs)
No! seriously, I think, uh… it just takes time. I mean, look at your Single skaters are pretty fabulous and there's no doubt that, …uh, perhaps? the world was kind of chasing you there so, I think it's just a matter of time, Meryl and Charlie (DAVIS/WHITE) and we have been together for 16,15 years now so, for Japanese team, I tell that to continue improving grows next generation.
Luckily for us we come from a rich history of Ice Dance in Canada. We followed people of each generation, so now I think you will learn from REEDs, whom younger generation do learn and they’re improving.

DAVIS:
(adding "other type of opinion") I think a big part of the growth of Ice Dance that has to do with the coaching. And I think that all of us - you know, Midwestern, North America, I got very fortunate to have World-class Ice Dance coaches, coming from Russia particularly. I think that it was a big part in the growth of North American Ice Dance.
And Charlie and I in particular are so lucky to have World-class coaches - 30 minutes from where we were born. So, I think in terms of setting up an ice dance program - similarly in Japan I think, I think coaches is the key.

social actions
DAVIS:
Charlie and I are mainly involved this competitive season with a program called "Classroom Champions". It was started by a fellow Olympian of U.S. Olympic team in 2010 named Steve Mesler(the first Bobsled Gold Medalist of USA) and the program he began with his wife a Ph.D. in education and basically as Olympians among other Olympians what we do is send videos to classrooms around the U.S., kind of providing support on various topics mostly elementary school children. You know, topics from "goal setting" to "perseverance" and things like that.
I think it's one of the most amazing things Charlie and I have ever been a part of. Not only because we feel like we're really able to give back, but because we kind of see the impact on the kids and we're able to discuss with them and kind of get to know them. So, it's a great program and actually it's going to Canada next year. So, it's going international!
VIRTUE/MOIR "The Special Olympics, The Human Society, and The Thames Valley Children's Centre are three charities and causes that are close to our hearts," noted Tessa, they're motivated with that.
CHOCK/BATES haven't enough time to get involved in charities, though, Madison is coaching kids at her rink, "that's inspiring me every day," she's grateful.

talking about his partner
- What do you think of the QUOTE? by one former Ice Dance World Champion: "I tried to kill my partner a thousand times, but never thought about changing partner." (everyone laughs)
WHITE:
I mean it's a pretty common question, you know. (smiles) Just how do you get along on the ice when you're together for so… you know, so long, and, you know, so much is at stake.
Of course, there are minor arguments, but the key is - you're always aiming at the same thing.
And like Meryl said, all of the teams here and I think in this competition we really show great respect for our partners.
And, um… you know, I don't!, you know, I've never wanted to kill Meryl! (everyone laughs) - You're gonna just go on the record I'm saying that. (smiles)
DAVIS/WHITE FD @ 2013 4CC
MOIR:
…I think it's Charlie, you could be killed. (everyone laughs)
MOIR:
Well, for Tessa and I, I think it's different. I think, if anyone's getting killed, it's gonna be me because if you had to work with me every day, you'd understand! (smiles) It's a little bit more difficult.
But, uh, Obviously it is an interesting point, and I think, in over the 16 years, it's never really crossed my mind - not only "killing Tessa" but also "looking for a new partner".
And I think that just, uh, a "tribute" to the type of partner that Tessa is. …Um, I always knew that, uh, you know, I had the best in the world. I got to stake with the best in the world every day. So, um… I, I always cherish that. And, uh, you know, it's… I guess we're lucky and, uh, I guess um… (to Tessa) "How lucky you are!" (laughs) We kind of cherish it every day.
And we try to move forward, as Charlie said. You know, we haven't tried to kill her a thousand times - we've never, maybe a little bit "magic", uh… I think I pretty cherish what I'm now.

VIRTUE/MOIR SD @ 2013 4CC
BATES:
Maddie and I haven't been together as nearly as long as the other teams up here. But, um, it's been about 18 months together. And I will say that we seem to connect quite nicely and we really enjoy spending each day together. I think that's a huge part of longevity and I hope to have that in the future.
…And, uh, "I haven't even thought about killing her once." (everyone laughs)

VIRTUE/MOIR SD @ 2013 4CC Silver Medalists

DAVIS/WHITE FD @ 2013 4CC

VIRTUE/MOIR SD @ 2013 4CC
