FD "The Beatles Medley" @ 2013 4CC
- on FD performance
Cathy: It was very… I would say it was very nerve-wracking. Um, I had a rough season last season.
Chris: But everyone's support here has been genuine to us. Without their support we couldn't be where we are now.
Cathy: I felt really solid in the footwork… and the twizzle was pretty straight, my leg just somehow slipped. I really have no idea how exactly…
- It's tough to recover from a fall like that in such an important competition.
Cathy: It is. So tough. Um, we just never, like, we never know what to expect, so when it happens it's kind of a shock but you just have to get up as fast as you can. I just couldn't.
Cathy: (before the fall) I was surprisingly very very happy. I was… even surprised with myself it was going that well, and I guess that surprised me, made me lose my concentration. But um… I guess I made a mistake - it will never happen again.
- How did you pick FD"The Beatles Medley"? it seems to suit you very well.
Cathy: Actually Galit(coach Chait) & Igor(choreographer Shpilband) prepared for us with such a good relationship, we were kind of hoping for other music at first but, it fits us well so much.
Chris: Um, for me I always loved listening to the Beatles before. It's one of my favorite bands. To be able to skate a program to the Beatles was nice, but it was hard work to get the choreography done. It was a whole new feel dancing in the 60s era. And um, we were able to get a choreographer to help us out, and teaching us all these different dancing moves, like um…
Cathy: "The Jerk".
Chris: The Jerk… there was so many of them. It was so much fun.
Cathy: ♪Do I get to show you how~? (smiles)

- How did you prepare for this competition after All-Japan Nationals?
Cathy[translation]: Um…((in Japanese)) after All-Japan Nationals, we had competed in Poland, it was not bad, we skated well in SD but made a mistake on twizzle in FD. And we took a little vacation, to clear the mind a bit, and then, for 2 weeks we had a lot of power, concentration, to work hard. Really hard work.
Cathy: You know, we focused on like, no wasted time, no fights. Just, just work. We know, from now on that's exactly what we need to do.
Chris: "- 'Cause I'm always right." (smiles)
- Have you trained by John Kerr, as well?
Cathy: Well basically he's like an assistant coach. Um, he travels actually quite a bit for shows, he was here in Japan for Stars on Ice… so we don't get him very often. We do get Nina Petrenko(Victor Petrenko's wife)'s coaching a lot as well, mostly on artistry and cleanliness of the free leg.
- on Worlds, Sochi Olympics
Cathy[translation]: Um,((in Japanese)) we took a step up this competition, took Level3&4 elements as well, despite the fall on Diagonal, it's learning experience.
Chris[translation]: Um,((in Japanese)) same, I think the same as Cathy. (laughs)
Cathy[translation]: ((in Japanese)) "Same"? (laughs)
Chris[translation]: ((in Japanese)) I enjoyed this competition, as I wasn't able to skate at Four Continents due to a fifth metatarsal fracture before. Um, so…"it's learning experience." I'll do my best at Worlds.
Cathy[translation]: ((in Japanese)) At Worlds, we need to qualify for Sochi Olympics. So, Uh, we need more and more practice after this competition with our coaches, Alexei Gorshkov and Igor Shpilband. We're not satisfied with our performance this competition.
Cathy[translation]: ((in Japanese)) We're going to work harder, have a lot of run-throughs. Vancouver Olympics was fun, then I strive to do my best at Sochi Olympics.
- Do you feel you have changed your mindset, since Vancouver Olympics?
Cathy: Um…Well, definitely more awareness, more serious right now. I guess we were very young before and… of course concentrating, being serious about it, right now we're older so we have a more stronger desire and goal.
Chris: We already know what to expect so now we get to strive to do more and more.
Cathy: I want to get the highest placement possible for Japan, as a Japanese ice dance team.
Chris: Everyone knows that Japan is really strong in the men, ladies and pairs. So, to skate for everyone… everyone wants Japan's dance team to become strong as well.

► FD"The Beatles Medley"
Cathy[

Really hard work.
Cathy: You know, we focused on like, no wasted time, no fights. Just, just work. We know, from now on that's exactly what we need to do.
Chris: "- 'Cause I'm always right." (smiles)
Cathy:
Chris: Um,
Cathy: 「
run-through(曲かけの練習)たくさんします。
